The Ribbon Bench Initiative raises community awareness by both honouring the victims of domestic violence and providing an opportunity for this important issue to remain visible. The furniture design aims to enhance user engagement by creating a memorable and stimulating experience in the public realm.

The twisting forms of the bench seats are derived from the Awareness Ribbon icon. Awareness Ribbons are defined as short pieces of coloured fabric folded into a loop which are used as a way for wearers of the ribbons to make a statement of support for a particular cause.  

This icon was also used to create a custom laser cut pattern in the furniture elements, which was intended to visually reinforce the connection of the design with the symbolism of the Awareness Ribbon. Plaques can be added to the benches as required to help the community better understand the messaging behind the forms and colours being used.

Outside Assembly are very professional to deal with and have provided creative design direction along with wonderful communication and delivery. We are very happy with the outcome for this project and look forward to working with the OA team again in the future.
